aluminum electrolytic capacitor

Did you ever wonder how this funny rubber tin can works? There are countless applications for these unique electrical parts and they allow many different devices to work. Today lets dig deeper into this truly interesting world of aluminum electrolytic capacitors and see what makes them special.

Decoding the Fundamentals of Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Think about the battery you use to power a toy or when driving your remote-controlled car. An aluminum electrolytic capacitor works in a similar fashion as it can store electrical energy much like a battery but be able to release this energy very quickly. How does it achieve this? Essentially, a capacitor is made by placing two metal plates close to each other with something called an electrolyte in between. When attached to a motor or light, you can immediately dump all the stored electricity!

How are Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors Produced and in What Areas Are They Applied?

You cannot merely construct an aluminum electrolytic capacitors. This entails careful handling and the use of specialized equipment to keep it up-and-running. It starts by coating a special oxide layer as one of the capacitor layers on an ultra-thin aluminum foil. It is followed by a graphite plate in which this substance, known as the electrolyte (7), enters and allows an electric capacitor to store energy correctly. All the parts are assembled, and then a capacitor is hard enclosed in an insulating sheath.

They are used in a wide range of other equipment requiring sudden high current discharges, often burst-mode or pulse type; for example power tools, larger audio amplifiers and strobe lights. They are also useful in devices that draw high current upon startup, such as the motherboards and monitors of computers.
